For the Walker owners.
I purchased a used MTGHS 20hp 48" this summer. I have put about 70 hours on it this leaf season. I enjoy using it and the finish cut is great, but my GOD it's slow. Would a speed up kit help? Will the quality of cut suffer cutting at 6.5 vs 5 mph?
Thanks for your input.

all my Walker have it

for around $20 you can go from 5mph to 7.5 mph in less than five minutes yourself Walker part #8246

if it's wet thick grass, you may slow down a bit for the blower vac to keep up, otherwise they work fine

By all means get it. Only thing I can't figure out, why don't they just put it on from the factory?

I think this time of year it would be cool (and faster) if you just put a reindeer in front of you with a leash hooked to the mower...............now that would put some life in the ol' girl!

I'm kiddin, I'm kiddin'.;)

I have one and it does make it faster. You can cut at that speed in the right conditions and ALWAYS with sharp blades. The Walker is not made nor can it be productive at anything faster than this. That is why they make Lazers, Choppers, Z-masters and on and on.

The major difference you will find is that your steering responce is much more sensitive and you will take a little time to learn how to feather the sticks because she really jumps until ya get it down.
Buy it and install it yourself. It is right on top and the instructions are in the bag. Make sure you replace the spring too. I think it comes in the kit but back in early 2000 mine didn't have it. The beefier spring is needed to put extra tension on the belt.

Good Luck.

I am jealous that you ?all can mow at full speed. My yard is so rough and hilly that half speed is all my bu** and guts can stand. The Teflon deck washers have already wore out and I only have 170 hours on my Walker. I cannot till or drag the high spots because of ROCKS! So more dirt.

I have the bigger pulley on my Walker, I even went as far as bigger a even bigger pulley and shorter belt at TSC to see what would happen. Speed was great but I think the hydros weren't meant to turn like that so I took it off. Starting off going up hill seemed to make bad sounding noises. I have faster mowers so I just went with the factory oversized pulley. The reason the factory has both is for tighter areas the smaller pulley is better for control.
