I took my mower into the shop with a bad fuel solenoid today. My mechanic said that it's not absolutely necessary and found an old one without the plunger busted out, now it runs fine. He said the fuel solenoid is part of the safety system, but I'm trying to figure out how useful it is. Has anybody else done this? What kind of risk do you think I run with this?

If your mower is equipted with a rollover switch and it is wired to the fuel shutoff solenoid and you remove that solenoid then in the event of a rollover the mower could continue to run for a short period. The rollover safety is the most important in my opinion. I would not want my mower to continue to chew away at me if l get caught under it somehow.
Apparently dc mercury roll over switch has and had some bugs in it. Mine was acting up too. I would just get it replaced like I did.
When did they start putting Safety rollover switches on DC's?

I have one on order for my Scag, but it's nice to know that this is an option if I'm in a bind.

I am aware that on Kawis the fuel solenoid shuts off excess fuel which can run out the muffler or another opening and burn the grass as well when you shut down and sit in one place for a bit. Also I believe the solenoid reduces backfire from excess fuel in the exhaust.
