I have an old 22 hp kohler on one of my DC's and it is blowing oil out what seems to be the valve cover. Is this the weakest point?Could it be blowby or something else? Thanks.john

Were your valve covers upgraded to Orings or do they have paper gaskets? There was a service bulletin on this from Kohler several years ago.You may just have loose bolts on your valve covers.Try tightening the bolts before you take it to the dealer.Good luck! :)

I have the o-rings but I'm wondering now if I have a head gasket blown.I have good compression-120 lbs but it seems to bog alot easier than before.Could it be coming from the exhaust gasket?

Yes you very well may have a blown head gasket.Have your mechanic preform
a cylinder leakdown test on your engine,That will determine if the engine needs to come apart. If you need to take it apart, make sure the heads are not warped, and inspect the valves.Good luck! :)

I have a compression gauge. How long does it need to be hooked up for it to keak down.I know that didn't sound right.I guess what I meant is if it is bad enough how long does it take to leak down?

A cylinder leakdown test involves pressurizing each cylinder at TDC.A compression guage will not work. This may be something that your dealer should do for you.Good luck

HI You may also have a broken reed valve that is located in the valve chamber. it could also bee the rubber groument on the breather is cut and need to be replaced. If you take it in for a leak down test they can also tell you if there is any trouble in the rings or valves it is a realy good tool for working on engines.

can i have some info on the new o-rings for the valve cover please. Our older dixie is leaking like a siv on one side, with new gaskets too.
Thanks in advance.
website or anything would be great.

The valve covers should have been replaced while your machine was under warranty.I do not know if they will still be covered(ask your dealer)The part #s are 24 755 74 (plain) and 24 755 76 (with breather hole)Good luck!

The mower is not consistent in the way it runs.I know it still leaks oil but it doesn't bog down all the time.Do I have a coil going bad?Is there a way I can check it.I know you want everyone to use a dealer but I can't afford to drive 40 miles to a dealer in nashville.

Keep a set of spare spark plugs with you.(or purchase Kohler HEI spark testers)When the unit is hot, hook up the plugs, and see if you have a blue spark.Do not crank the motor with the wires disconnected from a grounded plug or spark tester(this can burn up your coils).Perhaps a local auto repair may have a cylinder leakdown tester that they can test your motor with.Good luck!
