I have an XT3200-72". After mowing for a while and engine is hot, when I shut the engine off, I always get a good backfire. What is the story with this? Is there something I can adjust? The machine has about 30 hours on it. Thank You.

Do you idle your motor to let it cool down before you turn the key off?The backfire should not harm your engine, although I would mention it to your dealer. It is caused by un-burned fuel contacting a hot spot in your muffler. :)

I haven't tried the idle/cool down, but it seems that the guy below has and has the same issue. Wondering if there is a carb problem with Generac. Wondering if any other DC users experience this issue? Don't have the same issue with any of the Kohler motors.
Quote from Crotchrocket25 on the Dixie Chopper forum: "...I do notice that after mowing, I bring the RPMS down to idle and let it run for a minute at idle to cool off as the owners manual says but when I shut it off it doesn't want to die and back fires a few times. Is this normal? Other than that the machine works great"

Make sure that your idle is set to 1500-1550 RPMs.Also let your engine cool down before you shut it off.I hope this helps :)

I have tried the cool down as recommended. However, upon reading the manual, it says to allow the engine to cool for 1 minute for every previous hour of use. This backfire will occur even when just running for a couple minutes and shutting it down. I've noticed that even when moving other machines in and out of the garage, the Generacs will be the ones that "pop" when you shut them off. The Kohler's don't do this at all.
DC Service: What is the recommended spark gap for plugs? Maybe that is the issue? :nut:
