With a wetter than usual year I find that my X1701 is bogging down in thicker growth. Blades are sharp and engine seems otherwise fine. I don't think this is a mechanical malfunction as much as a lack of power (may be why they don't have a 17 HP model any longer?). Does anyone have specific information/suggestions on what model Kohler to use for an engine swap. Recommendation on HP - is 20 enough or better to go 22-25? What else would I need? New pulley? I don't want to get into different shaft lengths or other mods. Looking for something I can drop in and put on pulley and belts and go. Not looking for more speed, looking to be able to maintain revs while mowing the thick stuff. Non-commercial user with two acres. Thanks.
