After tearing down the carb on a Kohler CV20S (65541)for the 4th time I figured out why it would not start (yeah it had spark). :cryer: There is this thing that is mounted on the starter solenoid bolt. It is a small black canister with two black wires. It appears to be a condensor. I've been to 4 dealers  and was told many things but cannot get a right answer let alone a new part. Well, I swapped this with the other engine and voila'...it started. I also found out that it runs without this gizmo.
What exactly is this part and why isn't it listed in a parts manual?
What does it do? Reduce interference?
Wher can I get one and how much? Thanks

That part(Mercury Switch part #40229) can be ordered from your local dealer.
The purpose of that switch is to shut off the motor in the event of the machine flipping over. This is a Dixie Chopper part(not a Kohler part)Good luck! ;) PS this part is listed in the Electrical section of your owners manual.

I had the roll over switch go bad on my Kohler 25 about 2 yrs ago. It was the mechanic at my old dealer that helped me troubleshoot why it would not start. It cranked great and was getting gas but no spark, he told me to disconnect the roll over switch and it fired right up. The next time I was in there they replaced it for me. A good dealer and service department are a plus.

If your switch went bad, please remember to dispose of it properly. The switch has MERCURY in it. It may still be good, but just loosed up on you and turned sideways. The wires MUST be pointing up, or it will not fire.

P.S. besides being morally responsible in getting rid of your switch it is also against the law to just toss it out. We get rid of any of ours at our county hazardous waste center.

P.S. If you had spark. the switch is good. The switch will ground out the spark if it's no good.
