DC Service,
You will notice if you look at a Flex Deck ready DC, that it has square holes in the deck. Where can I get a square hole drill bit ? All my bits drill round holes only. :( Seriously, do you have any suggestions on the holes? I assume they are for carriage bolts.
Thanks,
TMM

I believe you are trying to mount a Flex Deck on a 72(not reccommended by DC).You could drill a round hole and file it square(a pita but it will work)The square holes in the decks are made by a punch at the factory.I seem to remember a triangle shaped drill bit that would drill a square hole, but I have no idea where you would find one.Good luck

The reason for the Flex-deck not being used on the 72 is because it uses a 20" blade and with the overlap it adds 18"s to your cut which leaves an odd cut pattern on the 72" deck

Well that is an answer I have not heard yet. However, I am not mowing commercially and don't care about an uneven mowing pattern. My XT3200-72 does not leave any mowing pattern when it's cutting good. When it streaks, it's an uneven pattern anyway. Thanks for the answer.
Dusty: I'll leave that technique for someone with more skill than I have. ;)

Thanks for the info Paul. I think I can live with that. The flex deck would be very helpful in the orchard, and would leave some interesting stripes! It would also increase the cut 25%. What does a new flex deck cost?

They are still on the Dixie Chopper website. Part @ 900020. Don't know on the price, but I'll bet DC Service will be able to find it.

The only other thing with the flex deck on a 72" cut is that the blade tip speed will be a little too slow, since the 72" deck spindles run at a lower RPM than those on the 60" machine. The biggest setup was built for a 60" DC. You could live with it,and if your not mowing real fast it will probably be fine,or swap ther drive pulley on the outside spindle i size larger,or the driven one one size smaller.Id go one bigger on the drive and a slightly longer belt.

John,
I have taken that into consideration and planned on having to replace the pully that comes with the Flex Deck. I have not mounted my Flex Deck yet because my dealer, who said he could get me the long spindle and any other parts I needed, has gone out of business. I am not worried about cutting the bolt holes, but I do not look forward to completey disasembling the deck to cut a little off the top plate. That will be a job!

Unfortunately this is one of those projects that has been stuck on the back burner. When I get it done I'll be talking about it, good or bad. ha ha ha. :)

Hey John D,
You just bought that big diesel from Chamber's, maybe John or Skip will cut you a sweet end of season deal !Maybe we can get a HUGE deal if we each buy one. Which mower are you going to use the flex deck on? TMM what mower and deck will you be using your flex deck on?

I dont know how id transport the flex deck on the 72",so id put it on my 60", I havent bought a new mower to put it on yet,i will by spring. Im split between the SP2800 and XT3200-60.I think im going with the Kohler,Generacs use a lot more fuel, and this isnt a production mower for me as much as its a trim mower,I have the 72" diesel is for big ,open areas,so the good economy of the Kohler EFI is what im leaning towards.Between my business and my FT job, i have 5 Commands and no problems.

Hey John D,
Did you buy your new mower yet? A 60" diesel and flex deck would be pretty sweet! Keep us posted.
