View Full Version : 20 hp Kohler wont start
Ive got a problem with my 72 inch Twin
One of the motors wont start.
It started up then stalled when I moved on the seat
Now it wont start at all
It spins freely and has spark and gas I believe
punting it to the dealer now hope its nothing serious
Any ideas?
I had a small oil leak was moving on the seat to see were it was coming from and the motor backfired
Didnt loose much oil it was still in the add range on the dipstick

You could have a slipped gear on your crankshaft. You really don't give much to go on in your post.Let us know what your dealer finds.Good luck! :)
That was one idea me and my friend had.
That and an intake valve cooked or sticking
Is a slipped gear BAD?
The dealer picked it up this morning he didnt seem to concerned
Said it was under warrenty and shrugged
He hopes to have it back tommorrow
Havent heard from him yet

While not common,a slipped gear means replacing the crankshaft. If it is under 2 years old, warranty will cover it. :)
Well its fixed
The valve was closer to the truth
It was a bent pushrod
dont know how I did that
Will ask tomorrow when he drops it off
Its under warrenty even thought its older than 2 yrs
I got a dealer demo its a twin 20hp
I think that's a 2002 model I still got another yr or so left

Glad you are up and running! Your pushrod probably bent when the motor backfired. ;)
Really? You think thats how it happened?
I have been thinking about putting a switch on the blade control so that the engine wouldnt turn off when you come off the seat.
I had read a previous thread here about unplugging the seat switches.
I think thats a bad idea the deadman is a good idea.
but if the blades are off you should be able to get off the mower without stalling it.
Do you know of any extended warranty for the Kohler motors?

You could have purchased an extended warranty when your unit was new.I do not believe you can get one now that the machine is used. You might ask your dealer if he offers the fail-safe extended warranty. This is basically an insurance policy you purchase for your engine.(not from Dixie Chopper)Good luck! :)
Thanks
Ive got a call in to him he hasnt called back yet
He didnt offer me that when I bought it wonder if that makes a difference?

The extended warranty must be purchased when the unit is new.If your dealer offers Fail Safe, you can still get it,but you have to submit an oil sample to them.Good luck and I hope you don't have any more problems :)
