First time for this request from a new customer. Looking for a easy way to pick up whole walnuts. Has anybody had any luck with these things? We tried with the Walker but doesnt like them.
I never used a billy goat vac but is that a possibility?

thanks Kevin

How big is the tree? What I do with one customer who has a hickory tree is just go there in the fall and rake them all up. It's no big deal, and probably less stressing that it would be to go over the whole area with a big blower waiting for the things to move.

This may not be what you are looking for, but aren't there chemicals out there that can be injected into the tree to keep it from producing fruit or nuts? I was going to research this subject this winter. I know that it won't help your current situation, but maybe for next year. I was looking for something to prevent the growth of sweetgum balls. Any tree men out there?

Pick em up whole, have wife make pies. Left over give to existing customers as a gift.

I have one of those powersweep things from Stihl. This thing is GREAT for stuff like that! I also use it for fruits like apples, plums, and pears. Even if the stuff is all soft and formenting, it piles it right up. What I originally bought it for, is where it REALLY shines in the field! That was to cleanup my ditches of gravel and debris in the spring. The ditches get all that gravel pushed down into them (sometimes piles) from the snowplows over the winter. Now, instead of "hacking the stuff back and forth down to the bottom of the ditch with a rake to pile it up and shovel it back up on the road, this thing just pushes it right back UP the ditch with ease, getting it wonderously clean. You just have to see one of these things in action to really appreciate it. When I first looked at one of these thing, I thought. "Yeah, right. Now THERE'S a gimmick!" But after I saw one work, I was in awe, and knew I had to have one! I opted for the Stihl, because it's the same power unit as the stickedger, so I just bought the stickedger, and purchased the sweep attachment seperate. Works well!

Lol @ CLARKE....I'd just use a blower or go out with a rake, a wheelbarrow, and a shovel. Rake into pile, shovel into wheelbarrow, and presto.

If you are serious about doing/offering this here is the perfect tool, it works on those sweet gum (spike) balls as well:

A power broom will do the job!!

there are pricey, but worth their weight in gold.

i've used them on Pecans, Black Walnuts, Acorns, Gum Balls, Sycamores...... You name it and they'll move it with no turf damage

even the ones half buried.

I get em into a pile using a rake or something and use a shopvac to suck em up in my own yard.

Yes there are chemicals i saw to prevent the pain in the @ss gumballs that we deal with every year.
I refer the customer to call the local tree guy that i know that does injections but the cost, i have no idea how much. I told him also i would investigate a way of picking them up for the future, might be a new addon service to advertise.

I hate sweetgum balls, if you don't pick them up, they shoot everywhere! I about dinged the heck out of my truck with them one time. It wasn't cool.
