White works best. Green on maroon Unless real light will not show up very well.

This one landscaper by me, he only has 3 trucks and lives at the body shop. But anyways, here is what he has. He has 3 red fords. We all know the kind of red I am talking about. He has gold lettering on all the doors of all his trucks. It looks GREAT! It is nice and shiny when it's clean. The letters are big and in italics. The number is right below the name. I can't take pictures for you unfortunatley... but I would suggest you look into it if you wanna spend the money. It's probably not gold leaf. But its gold lettering with when you look close all wavy lines in the paint job that are supposed to be there.

That light metallic gold WOULD show up about the best, I think. Look at how well it shows up on firetrucks, and that's on red. With burgundy, there is even MORE of a contrast, so it would stand out even better. The guy that did my detail work, uses a paint that has actual gold in it. It is awesome! It's all done with flakes, but holds up very well. He did all the city firetrucks as well.

Talk to your local graphic shop that would do the work. They can give good suggestions and even apply different color sample letters to see what it looks like. Refective is $$. Get good quality vinal that will last.

My father-in-lawn lives in Charleston W. VA did mine, all I did was make the design, mailed him the disk and he did the rest.

Hey Turfclip et. all: You all already know this but make sure that if you have commercial truck lettering that you have commercial insurance on the truck. One of the fellows in my turfgrass class had an accident (his fault). When he took the truck to the insurance company for adjustment they refused to pay for his truck damage and to the unlucky soul he hit. I guess next time he will get commercial insurance or magnetic signs.

Just food for thought.

What about magnetic signs? That is what I plan on using. I'll be using my truck for work and recreation, so I'll just use it when I'm not out on Friday nights. And if I had a wreck, then I'd just hide my signs. Hehe.

magnetics have good and bad points
first the bad
you need to every so often take them off and wax and clean under them so they wont mess the paint job or fall off
good points are when and if you want to trade at a dealer you can just take them off and put on the new one.
Also partner let your insurance ccompaney know your truck is being used for commercial purposes and also you pull a trailer
since its a lawn biz shouldnt make it go up that much

i'm using magnetic signs on my truck...got them from nebs w/ my logo for a little over $100, not bad IMO. what is custom vinyl going for anyway?

odin00 is right, 'bout every two weeks (at least) take the magnetics off and wax it. The local "Auto Trim Design" , owner is a buddy of mine) fixed me up and gave me that advice.

Unfortunately, my magnetic signs blew off, and I lost them, the Cummin's torque was just too much for them :p . By this time, was set on trying to stay in business anyway, so I got vinyl lettering put on.

I like to go 'incognito' sometimes so I opted for magnets. These came from a sign/banner place and are VERY thick and heavy. I've had them for two years now and they have never moved...except when I pull them to wash/wax the truck. They are super tight...cannot fathom them ever blowing off. They were about $150 for a set of 2.

The sign shop had a computer designer that could replicate a logo from a business card to make them match your existing graphic designs/logo.

Turfclips,

I have a two tone maroon and black Chevy with my logo on it. My logo is also green. I think mine turned out really nice. The guy who does my signs put my logo in kind of a white sheild so that it would stand out more. Then he left a thin outline of the truck peep through to border the sheild, so that it would match better. I have a digital camera. I am going to take a picture of it today and post it later. It might be of help to you.

My first mags were the square ones with name, number, and logo on it. Sold the truck in October and wished that someone had told me about the wash and wax deal.....mag was pulling off onto the door and making a mess as well as destroying the signs.:(

New truck will have decals. More expensive but in for the long haul.

Personally, I prefer vinyl. It lasts for a very long time and looks very professional. Instead of lettering the paint on the truck, try the rear window. My trucks are red and against a dark tinted window I have red letters with a chrome foil oitline. It looks sharp. I also have the sam lettering on the trailers. Lettering paint will cause fading problems and unlike the signs, you can't wax under it. If it is your company vehicle, letter it. If it is your personal vehicle, letter it. I have gained many new clients on personal trips by having my truck lettered.

Just my .02

Slimshady,

There is a hauling business here in town that has lettering on his truck that looks a lot like that. The truckis very beat up and and hilarious. I have to laugh everytime I see it.
It says "satisfaction guarantee or double your trash back"......lol

I've had my trucks done with vinyl lettering. It will fade slightly over the years, but not as bad as paint. When you sell, a hairdryer is all you need to clean off the lettering.

Prices will vary from place to place, but this job was $600http://www.lawnforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10&pagenumber=3 (a photo link) The door lettering is reflective and there is an additional 2 1/2' x 6' sign on the back of the bulkhead.

Keep your sign simple and easy to read, remember, people only have a few seconds to read it in traffic.

I'll bet 25% of my calls come from people who have seen my truck in the neighborhood or in traffic.

I have lost mag signs befor but i'll still use them, but what I'm gonna do this year is to put signs on my trailer.

I don't need to advertise I've got all I can do right now but you don't know what might roll around.

Its funny you brought that up. For years my business went under my last name. A couple of years ago I decided I wanted something more proffesional to go with my fertilization package. So I registered the name Evergreen Landscaping and Lawn Care with the PA corporation bureau. I had to buy the right to the name and meet theyre requirements. Shortly after I did some research on the net and found out there are about 100 Evergreen Landscapers in the state of PA. None of them are in my area, and none of the names are exactly the same.

There is Evergreen landscaping, Evergreen Lawn Care and Landscaping, Evergreen Lawn Care and many many others. Eventhough none of them are close to me it really kind of sucks. I asked them specifically if there were any other LCS with very similar names and was told no. Its possible that some of them are not registered. I am thinking of changing the name again to Ever Green Turf Managment. That way it will at least seperate me from the rest of these LCS.

Hey maybe we can go after them together and make a fortune! ROTFLMAO :biglaugh:
