How far do you go in cleaning your 2 strokes?

I want to take mine a apart and clean them. Anybody do this and have any recommendations?

The only cleaning i do is just on the surface of the engine and the muffler port a couple of times a year. 2 strokes are pretty maintnance free!

I just use some degreaser and power wash them.

Air filters a couple times a year I clean with 2-cycle gas and put a little oil on it.

thats about it

in the fall i run half a can of OMC Combustion chamber cleaner (Johnson/Evinrude) through the engine, this stuff really works well cleaning the carbon off the piston and reeds. Make sure you do it outside, it smokes bad and stinks.

Then i clean the carb, muffler, air filter and change the fuel filter.

If it ain't broke don't fix it,we run Suzuki 2 strokes down here, clean the air filter once a week, fill her up and pull the string, thats it,31/2 yrs old ,7280 lawns later still singing!

Since I'm using Amsoil synthetic 2 stroke oil there really isn't any reason to take the engines apart and clean them up. Just clean the air filter once in a while and they're pretty much "good to go".

You reckon you need synthetic oil?,I used to use it, it was $22 a litre,my repairman laughed at me said its only a darn mower so I use $4 litre budget oil now for 2 yrs no problems.,mowers or trimmers.Repair man says for mowers stopping and starting all day budget oil fine,High performance racing 2 stroke engines then use synthetic.

Since I only need to mix the oil at 100:1 with the gas the price is about the same as using conventional oils. The difference is I never have to take anything apart and remove carbon buildups. When I was using conventional 2 stroke oil I would have to periodically take them apart and clean out the carbon and clean the spark arrestors.

A good cleaning first off, inspect for broken or worn parts and repair those.

Then for the tune up (once a year, in the winter of course) I change the small fuel line, get a carb kit and rebuild it, change the air filter and plug.

Its worth the $30 or so to know your ready to roll in the springtime.

All I have done in the past with my 2 cycle equipment was do the filters real quick, sharpen blades on saws as needed, clean out the last of the fuel from the tank and carb, and with trimmers fill up all the heads with string. Then I just leave em to sit until the spring. Haven't really had a problem doing it like this yet. This actually reminds me though that I have to get my other trimmer and back pack blower back from the shop.

I just run 2 strokes until they act up then take it to the dealer for a tune-up. Keep the air and gas clean is all i do

When you go through the research, effort, and work that I have, you do EVERYthing right! 2 Echo 2601's, bored, polished and ported, Crim Pistons-flat top/high compression, with molybdenum rings, Mikuni L1 carburetors, with tuned pipes out the side. Yeah, you better beLIEVE I use Amsoil!;)

I try to keep them always running in top shape. Nothing really to do right now. Just maintenance them as needed thru the year.

I've never done anything to my 2 strokes in 2 years and they've always started quickly, but I've been using Crapsman, I don't care if the die! I'll take good care of my new commercial equipment next year.

I don't do a thing except take them to my local dealer who cleans them up and gets them like new for a minimal price. Let's just say the time it would take me to do it would be more expensive than having the dealer do it.

I run the gas out. Then i get a carb kit and rebuild them. It takes absolutley no time or effort, after you have done it a couple times.

andyslawns,
Do you rebuild the carbs every year, or just when you have to? Where can I learn to rebuild a carb. for 2-cycle equipment? Is there any information that comes with the kit?
Thanks, Bill!
