I'm gonna buy a hedge trimmer and don't really know anything about them { always let a friend of mine do the hedges, good work and cheap}. My local dealers handle Husky, Stihl, and Red Max {can't stand the red max dealer}. Which is best - 24" double sided or 30" single side. Hedges are all relatively short, so I don't think I need the extended reach trimmer. What's your opinion?

I have used all those brands before. I really like Stihl and would suggest them to anyone. I have used their extended reach trimmers before and they really rock. The Huskies I have only had experience with one of their cheap saws and was not happy. The Red Max is an awesome company though. I have a blower from them and am very happy.

Only thing negative is they are heavy .like trimming bushes with a chainsaw

I have had a Stihl HS80 for about 4 years and I really like it. Before that, I had an Echo, can't remember the model, but it was really slow compared to the Stihl. Only drawback is that the Stihl is a little heavier than the Echo was. This year I bought a Stihl longreach trimmer. It is an HL75K, and it also works great.:D

Now I do mostly small shrubs, I bought the Red Max 24" double sided hedge trimmer (of course I do not have the model # in my head).

I do not have the best back and If I am going to be trimming all day I want something light.

Also I started out using double sided back along time ago, so I am comfortable with them. I can not use the single ones.

I use the Redmax CHT-2200. Double sided. 22''.

I just love them. Balanced, tough, starts on 1 or 2 pulls, plenty of power. They are a little loud but thats what hearing protection is for. I can fly with these things. Cuts easily through the heaviest of stuff like butter. About $350.

Too bad you don't like your Redmax dealer-mine's fantastic. He even let me buy my trimmers at a 'sale price' a month after the sale was over...just because he got a deal by ordering 6 of 'em. I snatched the last pair in the house. :D

My next power hand equipment purchases are going to be Redmax!

I have the Stihl double sided. I love 'em. I also have the attachment for my trimmers. This makes the taller bushes a breeze.

After trying different ones I bought the Husky 225H60 24" Double Blade. Plenty of POWER and lighter then other brands tried. Been running it HARD for 2 seasons with not any problems. Always starts on the second pull and runs like a CHAMP. Would buy another one without any thought. Price was $379.00 + the governors cut. Good luck with your purchase.
