I am looking into buying a mulching kit for my 48" Scag. Are there any good kits out there for Scag mowers, and if there is where is a good place to order one online?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

DOES your machine have the advandage deck?I know they have one for the advantage, but im not sure if they make one for the standard deck anymore.Youll have to get it at your dealer or he can order it for you

odin00,
Thanks for your help. My mower doesn't have the advantage deck but i'll see what my dealer can set me up with.

I haven't seen to many scags with mulching kits. I've never really heard anyone say great things about its mulching ability.
I would try to find someone that has it and see for yourself what it will do before I put the money down.

I bought one three weeks ago for my 54" standard deck. Cost me 39.00 for the plate to block off the discharge chute. Use the Scag part. No holes to drill. The kit for the Advantage deck is a good bit more expensive. I think it comes with some baffles that screw in underneath the deck.
Hope this helps, Bill Craig!

I have the plate also for my 48". I've been toying with the idea of installing some baffles around each chamber, wonder how that would work?
Last summer I installed the plate and tried running doubles. It actually cut pretty darn good without much blowout or rowing.

Would you have to weld those baffles in the deck?

You might not have to, I guess you could drill and bolt everything. If you wanted to though I wouldn't think it would hurt anything. If you do I would definately check the welds from time to time to see that they are holding up.
You gonna try it?

Will welding baffles to the deck not cause some warpage=uneven cut and other problems. There are many places where I might consider welding on my mower like the frame, but I would be real hesitant about welding to the deck. I'm sure there are welders out there who can do it, I'm probably not one of them.

Reason i asked is on the advantage ,scagg welded the baffles in .
But i guess they probally used robotic spotwelders
Id sure like baffles in the front of my standard deck scagg walkbehind. How would you do it?

I have the mulch plate for my standard deck scag ($39.00) It's ok but not great. Had better luck with double blades and took a piece of expanded metal
and bent it the same as mulch plate. Bolted on & works great still allows some air flow out the discharge with no blowout in the front. Does a number on dry leaves.
